June 30, 2018 was the perfect day for a wedding. The sun was shining, the hydrangeas were in full bloom, and the fluffiest white clouds were swimming in the blue sky, as Courtney and Matt prepared to say, “I do” on the steps of the historic venue at Twin Oaks in Humboldt, Tennessee. This was a day that I had been looking forward to for months, and I was so excited to a part of it!

Newly renovated, the Mary Nelle Bridal Suite inside Twin Oaks hosted an ideal space for Courtney and her best girls to get ready. There was lots of laughter filling the upstairs of the venue all morning- one of my favorite things to hear on wedding days. And across the lawn, in the groom’s headquarters, you could spot the same atmosphere between Matt and his groomsmen. It was evident from the beginning that this was not only going to be a GORGEOUS day, but it was also going to be a lot of fun and full of genuine emotion.

Courtney selected the most beautiful, vibrant colors to celebrate with and I am SO glad she did! The royal blue, deep pink, greens, and mix of wildflowers really complimented the old white plantation home, not to mention her breathtaking dress and Matt’s pale gray suit. I think bright colors on a white backdrop may just be my love language!

After her bridesmaids helped her into her dress, Courtney and her mom shared a few special moments together looking out the window of the bridal suite. There’s something about a bride spending intentional time with her mother on the wedding day that always brings a tear to my eye (and Courtney’s mom may have shed just a few herself)! Now she was ready to meet her groom.

Matt patiently waited outside on the front lawn for Courtney, as she met him for their first look, which was such a fun and special moment to witness. Courtney crept up behind Matt and then quickly greeted him with a kiss and the biggest smile, and Matt admired his bride. These two were absolute troopers the whole day, because I won’t sugar-coat it, it was HOT – but they never missed a beat! After the first look, the rest of the bridal party joined us on the lawn for some of the funniest pictures I think I’ve ever been a part of on a wedding day, thanks in part to Courtney’s brothers, Chris and Charlie!

We completed a few family portraits before the ceremony began and at six o’clock, everyone turned to see the mothers, the bridesmaids, and the cutest ring bearer and flower girls make their way down the aisle, but Matt’s eyes were on Courtney. As her dad walked her down the stone path and up to where Matt was waiting, the joy and excitement in the congregation was tangible. And despite the fact that there was a little rain and some thunder toward the end of the ceremony (which is good luck, mind you!), it didn’t put a damper on the way that Courtney, Matt, and their family and friends would celebrate their marriage!

I stole the bride and groom away for a few sunset pictures after the rain stopped, and then the reception began. Combine delicious food with a stellar D.J. and all of the guests that came out to support Courtney and Matt, and you have a great reception! The new Mr. and Mrs. shared their first dance to the song “I Don’t Dance” by Lee Brice and had a custom coffee bar available to their guests. The groom’s cake sported a clever “Finally Hooked” catchphrase, and several of Courtney’s students were in attendance, which I thought was really special. It was very easy to see that Courtney and Matt are loved by so many people- family and friends alike- and it was awesome to see their two families come together to celebrate them with such love and joy.

Courtney and Matt, thank you so much for allowing me to capture your big day! I loved every minute of it, and wish you both all of the best for many, many years of happiness and God’s blessings in your marriage!
